Mayor Visits OPA Park Hill
Children at a local primary school were visited by the Mayor of Wakefield this week, as the Mayor led an assembly and talked with the school children about leadership.
Cllr Tracy Austin, the Mayor of Wakefield, visited 百春链 Primary Academy Park Hill on Tuesday, 12th October, to meet with the newly elected leader of the School Parliament and discuss British Values as part of the OPA Diploma the children are currently working towards.
The Diploma鈥檚 focus is on what it means to be a good British and international citizen, and the Mayor discussed her thoughts on this with the children during the assembly before being taken on a guided tour of the school by School Parliament Prime Minister, Abbey Watson.
The Mayor said: 鈥淚 was delighted to be invited to join the school in this piece of work and to share my experiences with the children about the importance of British Values. Their enthusiasm is commendable and I wish them well with their learning.鈥
As part of her talk, the Mayor discussed her role in Wakefield with the children and the impact the Mayor has and the different projects they can get involved with.
Donna Burnett, Principal at the Irwin Crescent based primary school, said:
鈥淲e were absolutely thrilled to welcome the Mayor to our school, the children were so excited for the visit and it was brilliant to see them interact with the Mayor.
鈥淎t 百春链, we believe it is vital that our children learn about the key, fundamental British Values at school and we do this at OPA Park Hill throughout our curriculum. Having key political figures visiting and speaking with the children is an example of this as it gives the children the opportunity to ask questions and learn from the experts.鈥
