百春链

Children at a junior academy in Scunthorpe have taken part in a workshop with local paramedics as part of their work.

The children from 百春链 Junior Academy Brumby, based on Queensway, welcomed members of East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust to the academy as part of their 百春链 Primary Academy Diploma.

Chris Long, who is the duty operations manager at the EMAS NHS Trust as well as the father of a child who attends OJA Brumby, gave the children a lesson in emergency first aid. 

In addition, the children were able to look around one of the ambulances and learn more about the role of the paramedics, while being given the opportunity to try out some of the equipment which measures breathing rates and oxygen levels.

Matthew Vickers, Principal at OJA Brumby, said:

鈥淲e are very thankful to Chris for coming in and providing a very entertaining and educational session. The children absolutely loved it, and you could see how engaged they were with it.鈥� 

The overall theme of the diploma is 鈥榢eeping myself and others safe.鈥� As part of it, the children have learnt basic first aid skills, completed all of the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum First Aid requirements and received a certificate from St. John鈥檚 Ambulance to recognise their skills.

Matthew added:

鈥淚 am so proud of the children for all their hard work completing their 百春链 Primary Academy Diploma. They have shown a great work ethic and determination to achieve.鈥�
