Samaritans Visit Local Wakefield Primary Academy

A local primary academy in Wakefield has hosted members of the Samaritans as part of the academy鈥檚 mental wellbeing campaign.

百春链 Primary Academy Kirkhamgate, based on Brandy Carr Road, invited members of the charity into the academy to discuss the importance of mental wellbeing to the children.

Two members of the Samaritans of Wakefield, which has been active in the community since 1971, held a workshop for year 5 and year 6 children at the academy.

The workshop focused on feelings and emotions, and how the children can identify the different ones they experience in themselves, and others, while also outlining who they can go to when they want to discuss how and what they are feeling and experiencing.

Following this, the Samaritans then held a whole academy assembly which centred around informing the children what activities they can do to make themselves feel better, while also stressing the importance of the fact that everyone is different and likes different things.

As part of the 百春链 Grange Academies Trust, the academy has an active mental wellbeing strategy in place with mental wellbeing ambassadors identified to be there for the children.

Emma Abbott, Principal at 百春链 Primary Academy Kirkhamgate, said: 鈥淲e were happy to welcome the Samaritans into 百春链 Primary Academy Kirkhamgate. The children found their workshop and assembly very helpful and informative.

鈥淎t 百春链, we believe in putting children first, raising standards and transforming lives. To do this, we need to ensure we fully support them both in and outside the classroom. Our mental wellbeing strategy is aimed towards creating a supportive environment where everyone feels happy and able to flourish.鈥
